“Grand Baikal”: 6 years among the largest tour operators of Russia
According to the specialized newspaper “Tourinfo” the company “Grand Baikal” is among 50 largest tour operators of Russia and among ten largest regional tour companies of the country for sixth years in a row. In comparison with 2008 the company went five steps up. Like in the previous years, “Grand Baikal” is the only Irkutsk tour operator included in the rating.
In 2009 the company revenue made 415.7 million rubles, in comparison with 2008 it went down by 4.9 %, the number of tourists serviced is 36.3 thousand (-5.7 % in comparison with 2008). Insignificant reduction of the company parameters is caused by reduction of demand for hotel accommodation and MICE in the half of the last year, which, in its turn, was caused by the crisis phenomena in Russian economy.
According to “Tourinfo” newspaper, in opinion of the rating participants at the year of crisis tourist industry has not just survived, but proved to be adequate. In 2009 there were no serious bankruptcies, and decrease of parameters of many companies is natural and explainable in the conditions of the market reduction.
